Signs it's time
- Water looks muddy or yellowish.
- A bad smell from the taps.
- Sand or bits at the bottom of a glass of water.
- Slime on the tank walls or lid.
How often
About every 6 months is a good rule. Clean sooner after floods, heavy rain, nearby construction, or if a bird or animal got in. Keep the lid closed and tight.
What a proper cleaning includes
- Tank emptied and mud removed.
- Walls and floor scrubbed.
- Washed, then disinfected with a safe product.
- Rinsed well before refilling.
